What is a birth doula?
A doula "mothers" the laboring mother. She bonds with the mother and her support person before birth so that they can work together as a team. She comforts the laboring woman emotionally and physically, and gives suggestions on helpful labor positions. She listens. She offers encouragement. She fully supports a birthing woman so that she feels protected, advocated, and empowered.

Research studies have concluded that doulas help to:

*
decrease length of labor
*
reduce c-section rate
*
promote a satisfactory birth experience
In addition, babies are less likely to go to special care nurseries and babies breastfeed more easily. Mothers are less likely to experience postpartum depression.*

I offer doula services to all Indianapolis-area pregnant women and their support partners. I do not replace a birth partner, but rather, I enhance your birth partner's capabilities. You, your birth partner, and I work as a team to help you achieve your goals.

What is a postpartum doula?
A postpartum doula, sometimes called a baby nurse, is an experienced mother who helps new mothers integrate their new baby into their lives. Some tasks that I include in my postpartum services are helping with breastfeeding techniques, baby care and baby care techniques, meal preparation, and light chores. I also have helpful suggestions to help dads and siblings feel at ease with the new baby at home.

Please click on the links to the left for more specific information on the services I offer. I look forward to hearing from expectant parents and will happily answer any questions you may have.
